Flying the flag for The RLC Reserves

WO2 Simon Jeffery RLC, employer engagement public, Reserve Forces & Cadets organised the recent cross-Government Reserves event in support of Reserves Day.

The Civil Service Reserves Breakfast Reception was hosted by The Rt Hon Gavin Williamson CBE MP, The Secretary of State for Defence, at No 10 Downing Street.

During the reception the SofS for Defence took the time to speak to most of the 150+ Reserves from the Civil Service who were in attendance.

Other senior Army personnel in attendance were DCFA Maj Gen O’Learly and HD of Reserves Brig Gerhard Wheeler.

WO2 Jeffery would like to thank Maj Richard Lewis and Maj Ian Macdonald because they have been key enablers of a number of Reserve events, including this reception.

The Civil Service Reserves makes up just short of 5% of the ‘Whole Force’ figure for Reserves.

On Wednesday 14 October, The RLC Individual and Team Orienteering Championships took place on Mytchett Training Area. 115 competitors from 27 units took on a score event in which individuals had one hour to reach as many of the 24 checkpoints as possible. The four team members who score the highest points count towards the team result, where teams tie on points, the team with the fastest time to score those points wins.

Congratulations to all who were involved and well done to 17 Port and Maritime Regiment RLC, Marchwood who were the champion male team, 162 Regiment RLC who were the champion female team and Army Drivers Northern Ireland (152 Regiment RLC) the champion Reserve team.

Lieutenant Huw Stradling was the overall winner, closely followed by Major Richard Barrett in second and Captain Terry Furlong took third place. Major Sophie Spenser-Small was the female winner with Lieutenant Colonel S Braine and Colonel Lucy Giles hot on her heels.
