Over the last two weeks, seven members of the 17 P

Over the last two weeks, seven members of the 17 Port and Maritime Regiment RLC, Marchwood Regimental Dive Team successfully organised the ‘deep phase’ of Exercise SUBMERGED CRUSADER 21 in the Isle of Skye, Scotland.In total, 20 divers took part in numerous training serials including: live decompression up to depths of 42m, ultrathermic cutting, hydraulic tools, search and recovery and a seabed survey in the murky depths of Loch Alsh, Loch Akin and Loch Na Beiste.The team were ably supported by the dive tender MV Moorhen and a Navy Chamber crew from the Defence Diving School who conducted lessons on safely recovering a diver to a recompression chamber.#BritishArmyLogistics #WeSustain #WeAreTheRLC #diving #divinglife #divingdeep #divingislife #divingphotography

One of our nominees for Young Sportsman.This has been a knockout season for Pte Joshua Millington culminating with a gold medal at the England development Championships. Pte Millington took up boxing on joining the Regiment in November 2018 where his natural talents soon shone through where he won the Regimental Championships in the bantamweight division. The Championship Finals evening was a real showcase of RLC boxing where Pte Millington's victory over a more experienced and highly rated opponent from 13 Air Assault Support Regiment was one of the highlights of the night and showed the true grit and determination we expect from our soldiers. His unprecedented evolution did not stop there, and he went on to join the Army Boxing Development Team in just his second season of Boxing. His sporting conduct in the ring, coupled with his excellent attitude to soldiering is the perfect example to young soldiers of the Regiment, with a maturity beyond his years. Pte Millington is a credit to his unit and The RLC - not just a sportsman, he has been a fantastic soldier and Ambassador for The RLC, Army Boxing Team and for the Army in general and as such he rightly deserves to be nominated as The RLC Young Sportsman 2020.

One of the outstanding nominees for Young Sports women was LCpl Amy McCabe.LCpl Amy McCabe started Taekwondo at the young age of nine. Coached by her father she found a passion that saw compete at national level for Scotland at just 16 years of age. In 2014 just one year after joining the Army LCpl McCabe competed in her first Army competition. As a 2nd Dan Black Belt, it was not long before she caught the eye of the Army Taekwondo coaches. She has continued to represent the Army at the Inter Services Championships every year since 2014. Additionally, she has also competed and been placed at the Global Taekwondo UK - British Championships as part of the Army Team. LCpl McCabe is an extremely professional and dependable JNCO who is an example to other soldiers. She is a natural athlete participating in all sports on offer including, most recently, representing the Regiment in Athletics and Cross-Country at the RLC Championships. Furthermore, she is invaluable as a PTI, leading by example and acting as a role model for other females in the Regiment. In essence, she is not just a great sports woman, she is an excellent JNCO and a fine ambassador for The RLC who fully deserves being nominated as RLC young Sportswoman of the Year.

Pioneer Spirit award winners are @6_regiment_rlc6 Regiment delivered unrivalled team successes in Alpine and Nordic skiing and cross-country running, with individual successes above Army level in 8 sports and emphatically led and officiated in 5 Divisional, Corps and Army sports meetings. All of this is set against a backdrop of a culture that promotes inclusivity and grassroots level sport. The Regiment routinely participates in 17 sports and 3 annual military skills competitions. At submission the Regiment is placed 1st in the Army Sports Trophy. It possesses talent in depth and across a wide spectrum of sports. Team successes in skiing and cross-country are built through years of investment and commitment by the Regiment in youth and grass root level participation. Achieving overall Army Champions in both ski disciplines and being the only RLC unit to ever hold concurrently the titles of Army 10km Road Race, Army Cross Country Relay and RLC Cross Country Champions whilst delivering Juniors to GB and inter-service level stands testament to the enduring commitment the Regiment has towards sport.More broadly soldiers compete at National and Armed Forces level in boxing, rugby league, BMX biking, downhill mountain biking, swimming, and karate. At Army level the Regiment is also represented in boxing, football, and rugby union.The 6 Regiment mantra is "you can never be doing too much sport" and sport is command led to deliver cohesion as well as sporting excellence.

The Lifetime Achievement award goes to....Lt Col

The Lifetime Achievement award goes to....Lt Col Fiona Gordon’s sporting career spans nearly 30 years where she has represented both the RLC and Army, as well as her running club, at cross country, athletics and trail running. Such achievements are worthy of recognition but, equally impressive, has been her dedication, energy and leadership that has inspired, encouraged, and mentored hundreds of athletes, particularly women, to participate in sport. These factors epitomise the very essence of the Lifetime Achievement Award.
During her career Col Fiona has won over 60 individual titles (from unit to national master’s level) in all running disciplines ranging from 400m to an 86-mile ultra-marathon; as well as multi-terrain duathlons. In her younger years, she was twice selected to represent the Army at the Inter-Services, at a time when there was only one team of six. As a Corps sportswoman, there can’t be many (if any) athletes who, not only still finish in the top five in their Corps, but then go on to represent their Corps at the Inter-Corps Championships every time. Perhaps equally unique, she is also possibly one of the few left in the Corps that were awarded their Corps colours (for both cross country and athletics) following its formation in 1993. And, remarkably at age 51 she still finished 4th RLC female at the Corps and Inter Corps Championships.

The Hemming Belt is awarded to.....This season has been a Royal performance from LCpl Megan Reid culminating in her being crowned as the Scottish National Champion. She began boxing after joining The RLC in 2013 and she won an RLC title in her first season as a boxer. Thereafter, she entered the Army Individuals' Championships that same year where her natural talent shone through and she was crowned champion. Given her Scottish heritage, the following season she entered the Scottish Championships, and was narrowly beaten in the final, no mean feat for her third boxing season. Her performance in the final was outstanding and resulted in her first international call up, representing Scotland in the Great Britain Championships. LCpl Reid returned to the English Championships in 2017, this time going one step further and gaining a Silver medal. Since then she has represented The RLC, Army, UK Armed Forces and Scotland at the highest level in the European Championships and twice at the World Championships. LCpl Reid has represented the Corps and the Army with a style that most boxers and other sportsmen and sportswomen aspire. She is a credit to her Unit, The RLC and the Army and a role model for all aspiring athletes and soldiers. She has achieved so much in such a short space of time where, looking to the future, her Gold at her National Championships means that she is the unrivalled queen of RLC Boxing and is duly nominated for the award of the Hemming Belt.

The Lifetime achievement award goes to.....Cpl Keleni Drummond has been a Corps and Army sportswoman since she joined the Army in 2001 at the age of 21. Her military sporting career began on the Rugby pitch, but it did not take long for Basketball and Netball players to scout her for their respective teams; she has played all three sports at Corps level from inception. By the time of her assignment to 17 Port and Maritime Regiment in 2007, Cpl Drummond had represented the Army at Rugby, Netball and Basketball. Sadly, during an Army Rugby fixture against the Farnborough Women's Team she was badly injured and had to take a break from the pitch to focus on rehabilitation. Dedicated and focused to recuperate, by 2009 she was back fighting fit and switched her focus to both Netball and Basketball. Cpl Drummond’s sporting successes are numerous and varied where, in addition to representing the UK Armed Forces Basketball Team from 2016 - 2018, she captained the Corps Netball Team from 2012 - 2014 leading the RLC to Inter-Corps victory three years in a row, including representing the Army during this period. In spite of her previous injury Cpl Drummond put her rugby boots back on in 2019 to re-join the Corps Team in winning the Inter-Corp Rugby 10s, 15s and the Palestine Cup. She continued her successful leadership streak and captained the Army Masters Netball Team to success at the 2020 Inter-Services Championships. Corporal Drummond is one of the most decorated multi-sport sportswomen in the Corps. In her 20-year career to date she has competed at Regimental level in countless sports, but has truly flourished as a Corps, Army and UKAF player in Rugby, Netball and Basketball. Cpl Drummond represents the very best of her generation and fully deserves recognition for The RLC Sports Awards Outstanding Achievement category.

Your Sportsman of the year is.....Sgt Leon Hinds

Your Sportsman of the year is.....Sgt Leon Hinds has had an exceptional year surpassing all expectations. He has represented the Corps and Army at several military and civilian competitions winning an unprecedented number of medals including securing Golds at The Brasilian Jui-Jitsu Allstars and Bristol competitions before moving on to claim Silver and Gold at the International BJJ World Masters Championships a feat never achieved by anyone in the British military. Sgt Hinds continued to excel after joining the Army Elite Sports programme securing more Gold and Silver medals at various international events including Gold at the second largest tournament in the world the International BJJ European Open for 2 years in a row. His accolades are many and varied in addition to those listed this evening for this true giant in his sporting field. Sgt Hinds’s effervescent form has claimed many accolades in recent times including coming 2nd in the Army Sportsman of the Year category. His energy on and off the mats has been an inspiration to all and he continues to use his success to grow BJJ participation within the Corps and the wider Army. Sgt Hinds is a true sporting super-star and fine ambassador for The RLC.

Over the weekend, 154 Scottish Regiment RLC hosted Exercise MUDMASTER, the annual off-road driver training challenge that tests drivers’ skills and precision behind the wheel of different vehicles. The event, which took place in Dunfermline, Stirling and Linlithgow in Scotland, aims to develop the safe driving skills of the Corps’ soldiers with conditions that are designed to test their capabilities to the fullest. More than 100 teams entered, with both regular, reserve and civilian personnel taking part in challenges including navigation, observation, discipline and safety; all essential skills needed for deploying on future operations. #BritishArmyLogistics #WeSustain #WeAreTheRLC ... RLC personnel from BATUK have been helping to make donations of food and books to Hope and Homes Recreation Centre, a local orphanage home to 56 children in Kenya. Hope and Homes first became a registered recreation centre in 2011 by Suzanne Wangiru. Suzanne created the centre in order to rehabilitate street children, as well as orphans and young girls that have been rescued form early marriages. Cpl Shannon Stevens who is currently on detachment from 13AASR, commented on her experience visiting this fundamental centre: “When we entered the Centre, we were taken by surprise as there were more children than we had imagined there would be. We helped to distribute food, drawing books and reading books and the children were ecstatic. It was a surreal experience at Hope and Homes, full of differing emotions, but it was definitely a great opportunity for the members of CSS 2nd Line to engage with the community creating a better working relationship with BATUK.”Major R Crane MBE RLC, SO2 CSS BATUK commented: “Witnessing the delight on the kids’ faces when they received the books and clothes that had been donated by friends and families across UK was very humbling.
