A career opportunity which may suit an RLC veteran, has arisen at Global Defense Logistics UK Ltd (GDL).
GDL is an established global logistic support provider to defence, government and commercial shipping, providing assurance through more than 30 years’ experience in the provision of Navy Husbanding including specialist areas such as Ship Supply, Naval Fuel Supply, Maritime Security and Support Equipment. With a worldwide customer base, including many nations’ navies operating under both national and NATO operational control, GDL has supported thousands of individual port calls across the globe, as well as providing the logistic support to Multinational Combined Operations, Training Exercises and Humanitarian Missions. Over the last 10 years, GDL has expanded to deliver numerous contracts providing husbandry services for naval vessels covering a great many port calls across a large geographical area. GDL UK’s target market will be the UK MOD and the commercial and military shipping that support the UK’s maritime Defence outcomes.
We are seeking an Operations Manager who will be the primary operational point of contact for the UK MOD and to deputise for the Strategy Director. The candidate should have a good mixture of maritime logistics background and commercial experience.
Operations will be routed through GDL’s Joint Operations Centre (JOC) but coordinated by the Operations Manager who will travel to attend port visits globally in order to supervise the provision of GDL UK’s services.
The job will suit someone with military logistic support experience, particularly with any background in Fleet Logistic Coordination, FLS teams and of course, log support on board and on deployment. An interest in travel and a desire to continue to support the work of our Armed Forces and those of other nations is essential. The job is based in the head office in Portsmouth and the successful applicant can anticipate a mixture of home-working, office time and travel.
A good grasp of written English, strong communications skills and IT literacy are essential. This will suit someone used to working in small teams, motivated to build connections and work on initiative, with good interpersonal and organisational abilities. Knowledge of maritime and/or shipping industries is a plus.
Duties will include:
- Responsible for oversight, supervision, and management of daily operations of the vessels under our management
- Acknowledgement and coordination of requests received from customers
- Assisting in coordinating port services arrangements
- Ensuring contractual guidelines and procedures are being followed during the operation
- Coordinating and reviewing the paperwork supporting a visit, known as the Preliminary Disbursement Accounts in order to meet contractual requirements
- Assisting the Strategic Director in development of business opportunities and relationship management.
