152 Regt crowned champion unit at AROSC

152 (North Irish) Regiment RLC was crowned the champion unit at this year’s Army Reserve Operational Competition (AROSC) 2019.

This is the first time in the history of the Regt that the unit has been crowned Champion Unit at AROSC, its previous highest placing was third.

In addition to this accolade, Pte McClure from 211 (Tanker) Squadron won a Queen’s Medal 2019 after taking overall individual Champion Shot). This is first time that any soldier from 152 has won the Army Reserve Queen’s Medal – an outstanding achievement.

Eight Top 50 Badges were also awarded –  only the second time in the history of AROSC that all eight members of one team have done this:

Pte McClure – 1st
Sgt Moore – 3rd
WO2 Hamilton 8th
Cpl Brown 19th
Pte Parker 26th
L/Cpl Graham 34th
Pte Mitchell 37th – first time in Top 50
L/Cpl Lavery 39th – first time in Top 50

Lt Col Andrew Chambers RLC, Commanding Officer, 152 (North Irish) Regiment RLC, said: “I cannot tell you how delighted I am with this performance.

This is the first year that I have not actually shot myself – this gave me the opportunity to help coach the younger soldiers with Sgt (JP) Penrose – I have enjoyed watching them all develop.

I’m indebted to Sgt (JP) Penrose who I believe is the best Shooting Coach in the Army Reserve, his dedication and patience has paid huge dividends for the Regiment.”

In addition to this fabulous achievement by 152 Regt in the competition this year, The RLC should be particularly proud of the performance of its reserve shots.

Currently, out of the Top 50 Shots in the Army Reserve, 21 are from The RLC (42%).
